The Construction Official enforces the provisions of the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code and has the power to:
- investigate the dwelling conditions in the borough in order to determine which dwellings are unfit for human habitation.
- administer oaths, affirmations, examine witnesses and receive evidence.
- enter premises for examination provided that entries cause the least inconvenience.

Although the Municipal Administrator is designated as the Enforcement Officer for the Borough, the Construction Code Official is charged, by ordinance, with administering the Department of Inspections, including the enforcement of property maintenance ordinances.
A Code Enforcement Officer, or the Construction Code Official, is authorized to enter and make inspections of all buildings, structures, common walkways, halls, garages, landscaped areas and lawns to check for compliance with all state statutes or approvals received from any board or authority of the Borough. Additionally, the Code Enforcement Officer checks for any defects that are dangerous, harmful or detrimental to life, safety or the health of a dwelling’s occupants or to the public.
The Building Subcode Offical approves all permits required under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code for newly-constructured buildings, premanufactured and accessory structures, additions, renovations/alterations/repairs, demolitions, underground storage tank abandonment or removal, fences, sign installations, swimming pools, certificates of occupancy, etc.
The Electrical Subcode Official approves all permits required under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code for installation of all electrical fixtures and devices, motors, transformers, generators, appliances, baseboard heating units, electric hot water heaters, central air/heat systems, pool equipment, service panels and meters, etc.
The Plumbing Subcode Official approves all permits required under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code for all natural gas lines, water and sanitary sewer service connections, bathroom fixtures, dishwashers, washing machines and dryers, floor drains, storm drains, sewer ejector pumps, gas hot water heaters, steam boilers, grease traps, water-cooled A/C or refrigerations, backflow preventors, etc.
The Fire Subcode Official approves all permits required under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code for renovations, alterations and repairs to existing structures. These include fireplaces, wood-burning stoves, gas/oil-fired appliances, commercial fire extinguishing systems, and pre-engineered fire suppression systems, fire service connections, fire pumps, sprinklers, standpipes, fuel tank installations, residentil heating equipment not connected to plumbing, residential/comercial fire alarm systems, residential/commercial exit/emergency lighting, etc.. Once any of these is approved, follow-up inspections are conducted by the Bureau of Fire Prevention.
