Open Space Committee

The registered voters of the Borough of West Paterson, as the borough was known in 2006, approved a referendum to establish, as per Ordinance #05-06, an annual levy at the rate of  $ .01 per every $100 dollars of property value of real property located in the Borough and to annually appropriate that revenue for any or all the following purposes or any combination thereof:

 Acquisition of land for recreation and conservation purposes;

  •  Development of land acquired for recreation and conservation purposes;
  •  Maintenance of land acquired for recreation and conservation purposes;
  •  Preservation of historic properties, structures, facilities, sites, areas or objects and 
    the acquisition of such properties, structures, facilities, sites, areas or objects;
  •  Payment of debt service on indebtedness issued or incurred by the Borough for any of the purposes set forth above.

Amounts raised by the levy pursuant to ordinance are deposited into the “Municipal Open Space, Recreation, and Historic Preservation Trust Fund”, which is an interest-bearing account.

By ordinance, the committe is comprised of five members that shall review, prioritize, and make recommendations to the Mayor and Council on the funding of qualifying projects.
