NJ DCA Resilient Communities Program Public Hearing:
Woodland Park Community Center Mitigation

On or before September 20, 2026, the Borough of Woodland Park will submit an application to the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, Division of Disaster Recovery and Mitigation, for funding through the Resilient Communities Grant Program for Fiscal Year 2026 in an amount not to exceed $5,000,000. Funding for the Resilient Communities Program is provided through HUD’s Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Program, as appropriated by Congress. The proposed project will be made possible by CDBG-DR funding and will include the rehabilitation of the Woodland Park Community Center. The project will take place at 8 Memorial Drive, Woodland Park, New Jersey 07424.

There will be a public hearing for said application scheduled for Wednesday, September 2nd , 2026 at 7:00PM to be held in the Council Chambers of Borough Hall, 5 Brophy Lane, Woodland Park, NJ 07424-2752. Public comments on the aforementioned application will be accepted for a fourteen-day period after the public hearing is held and must be submitted to the Borough by September 16th, 2026. PROJECT INFORMATION

Project to Be Undertaken: Rehabilitation of Woodland Park Community Center

Project Goals: The goal of the project is to mitigate flooding concerns to Woodland Park Community Center. The project is still in the process of being designed, and the Borough intends to construct an addition on the structure so that water can pass under structure, construction of a wall from elevation up 48” high, and the structure will be completely waterproofed. The project will also include automated flood gates at every entrance at grade level so that they may be activated when they sense the presence of water.

Description of Geography to be Impacted (Directly or Indirectly): There are no anticipated impacts to geography, and the only site impacted will be the project site at 8 Memorial Drive, Woodland Park, New Jersey. The site is already cleared so as to require minimal, if any, impact.

Site Development and Anticipated Impacts: The project site developed is the Community Center at 8 Memorial Drive, Woodland Park, New Jersey. Anticipated impacts include improved site hardening and protection from flooding. The Community Center will be developed to include an addition to the structure that will allow water to pass under the structure, added flood gates at every grade level entrance, and a 48” flood wall.
