A Message from Acting Mayor Tracy Kallert:
I am excited for this incredible opportunity to not only lead this Borough as Acting Mayor, but to give back to this community that has given me and my family so much.
I am a lifelong resident of West Paterson/Woodland Park. Over the decades I have learned that it is not the name that defines a town but rather the people who come together in a community and work for progress, prosperity, and a better life.
I grew up on Bush Avenue with my parents and four siblings - two brothers and two sisters. We all attended the local grammar schools and Passaic Valley High School. My father owned an insurance business in town on McBride Avenue and my mother worked as a school nurse.
My first job in town was delivering the local evening newspaper at the age of 11. My family instilled a strong work ethic in all of us at an early age and it has served us well throughout our lives. My parents volunteered as coaches with the West Paterson Boys & Girls Club, and I started in public service doing the same. Volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club gave me an opportunity to help my community while also spending quality time participating in recreational activities with my daughter Kaitlyn.
Through volunteering, I met Mayor Keith Kazmark and I was instantly drawn to his sense of community and passion for all things Woodland Park. His enthusiasm was infectious, and I was excited at the prospect of becoming more involved with the various boards and committees in town. Looking back, I could not have imagined where this journey would eventually lead, I just knew I loved what I was doing, and I wanted to continue learning and growing with each opportunity.
My plan for the future is to continue the path that has brought Woodland Park to where it is today. A community that offers its residents not only a place to grow but a place to thrive, financially, emotionally, and professionally.
I encourage our residents to take advantage of all of the wonderful amenities and activities Woodland Park has to offer. Spend some time visiting our parks or checking out the many programs offered by our recreation department.
If you have not had the opportunity to visit our Woodland Park Library at Berkeley College, please do so. They have relocated to the campus for approximately two years while construction is ongoing to build a new state-of-the-art library on Brophy Lane. The library is located in Renaissance Hall on the campus, located at 44 Rifle Camp Road. A full range of activities is ongoing for adults and children.
Please do not hesitate to contact my office at 973-345-8100, ext. 210, if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas for our town. I encourage you also to frequent our Borough website, www.wpnj.us, and our Facebook or Instagram pages for updates and news. On the Borough website, you can also sign up for our weekly e-newsletter as well.
