On Tuesday afternoon on Weasel Drift Road in town, we had a 13-year-old student struck by a car while getting off the school bus.
Speeding is a complaint we receive every single day on every street in this town. Even on back, back roads residents are concerned. For some reason, in this post-COVID world we live in, there is a feeling of importance and entitlement, and many think they are the most important person on the road. Well, guess what? YOU’RE NOT. And in Woodland Park, we are going to crack down - HARD - if you speed or are distracted while driving.
Two weeks ago, I directed Chief Uzzalino to have the Woodland Park Police Department strictly enforce the speed limit of 25 miles per hour and distracted driver laws to the FULLEST extent. In that two-week period, they’ve issued over 200 tickets.
After today, we will crack down even harder. I don’t care if you are a resident or just traveling through town. I don’t care if you are young or old. I don’t care who you are. When you speed our men and women in blue are going to ticket you. No questions asked. No excuses. They will ticket you and move on to the next person putting our kids in danger.
BE WARNED - because I never, ever want to have to call a parent like I did this Tuesday afternoon to find out the medical condition of their child while in the ER after getting hit by a car. BE WARNED.
