Bureau of Fire Prevention

The Woodland Park Bureau of Fire Prevention's authority was granted by ordinance, and the Fire Prevention Code of the Borough consists of the “New Jersey Uniform Fire Code,” adopted February 18, 1985.  Required copies of the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code are on file in the Municipal Clerk's Office and in the Fire Bureau Office for use and examination by the public.

Primarily, the Fire Official utilizes the 2006 International Fire Code, New Jersey Edition, including all subsequent revisions and amendments, which is locally enforced by ordinance in the Borough of Woodland Park.

The purpose of the Bureau of Fire Prevention is to conduct fire inspections in order to protect the public health, safety and welfare in the Borough of Woodland Park.  This applies to both residential (private/rental) and commercial/industrial properties.

Inspections Prior to Residential Occupancy

To schedule a dwelling inspection due to a sale or re-rental, complete the form below, picking the fee level you wish to pay — the higher the fee, the sooner the inspection will be done.

A Certificate of Occupancy will not be issued for a 1-family or 2-family dwelling until a certificate has been issued by Fire Prevention for Smoke Detector / Carbon Monoxide Detector / Fire Extinguisher compliance.  All have been required since 2005.  

The form below must be submitted to the Bureau of Fire Prevention prior to occupancy.

Type 1, Type 2, Type 3 & Type 4 Permits

The Fire Official must conduct an inspection or several other activities, as per the Uniform Fire Code of the State of New Jersey.  The fees charged range from $55 to $641.
