Rent Leveling Board
By ordinance, adopted March 1, 2006 and revised on December 5, 2012, the Municipal Council was granted all powers necessary and appropriate to carry out and execute the purpose of this chapter including but not limited to the following:
- To issue and promulgate the rules and regulations established in Ordinance #12-19, which have the force of the law.
- To supply information and assistance to landlords and tenants to help them comply
with the provisions of the ordinance.
- To hold hearings and adjudicate applications from landlords for additional rental as determined by sections of the ordinance. The Municipal Council must give
reasonable opportunity to both landlord and tenant to be heard before making any determination.
- The Mayor is authorized to appoint and employ a Rent Leveling Clerk whose
powers and duties are to be prescribed by the Municipal Council.
- Rental issues are to be handled by the Municipal Council, with an attorney
appointed by the Mayor who advises the Municipal Council.
