4/16/2021 - Site work begins at former Kearfott site on McBride Avenue

Prep work for asbestos abatement and demolition is currently underway at the former Kearfott Guidance & Navigation site at 1150 McBride Ave.

Purchased by Kushner Real Estate Group and the Stros Cos., the 16-acre property will be completely redeveloped into a 205,000-square-foot, newly constructed industrial building.

"We expect the site to house something like an Amazon distribution center," Mayor Keith Kazmark said. "They are making a major investment in the community."

Completion of the building which will have significant container and employee parking is expected by the end of the first quarter of 2022. It will house a commercial space in the back and some retail space in the front. There will be no residential units on the site.

Jack Shulman, director of leasing, acquisitions and capital markets at Stro, told Return On Information - New Jersey, that the firm is eager for the project.

“This is a quintessential location that 20 million people can reach within a one-hour drive, which makes it well suited for tenants focused on the last-mile,” he said, adding that development sites in infill locations are extremely scarce.

Stros Cos. has also agreed to fund and install streetscape along the property to match the work being done along the rest of the thoroughfare.
